Biographical Information[edit]
Tatsuya Yamamura played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 9 years. His son Hiroya Yamamura was also an umpire in the NPB.
Yamamura was drafted by the Kintetsu Buffaloes in the 3rd round of the 1979 NPB draft, and he only pitched 9 games combined in his first three seasons. He went 3-6 with a 4.82 ERA in 1983, but he only got 23 more appearances before he announced his retirement in 1990. He held the NPB Farm League record with 62 career wins when he retired, and he still holds the Western League record. After retiring, Yamamura became an umpire for the Pacific League from 1991 to 2016. He worked 1,788 games in his career, and he worked three All-Star Games (1999, 2006 and 2013) and three Nippon Series (2002, 2009 and 2013).
Overall, Yamamura went 6-8 with a 6.06 ERA, struck out 107 and pitched 175 1/3 innings in 9 seasons in NPB.
