The Hokkaido native got into regular action in 2010, with 11 holds in 58 appearances. He went 3-0 with a 2.91 ERA and .227 opponent average but walked 30 in 55 2/3 IP. He was 8th in Pacific League in games pitched, tied with Yoshinori Tateyama, Hisashi Takeda and Brian Sikorski. He allowed a 2-run homer to Tony Blanco in the 2010 Nippon Series Game 2, and he completed one shutout inning spread over 3 games as a LOOGY in the rest of the series. The Marines beat the Chunichi Dragons in 7 games, and Furuya won his only title. Furuya slumped to a 5.68 ERA in 21 games in 2011, and he only pitched 10 games with a 5.79 ERA in 2012. The Marines then moved him to the rotation, and Furuya was 9-1 with a 2.73 ERA in 2013. He tied Yuki Karakawa, Yusei Kikuchi, Hiroshi Kisanuki, Yuki Nishi, Yuji Nishino, Dennis Sarfate and Brian Wolfe for 7th in the PL in victories. He went 7-5 with a 4.35 ERA in 2014, and he had a 3-4 record with a 3.42 ERA in 2015. He did throw a no-hitter in the minors that year. However, Furuya's ERA rose to 8.84 in 5 games with a 0-4 record in 2016, and he announced his retirement in 2017.
