Biographical Information[edit]

Takeo Kanda played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 2 years.

Kanda signed with the Nankai club in 1941, and he became their ace as a rookie. He was 25-15 with a 1.59 ERA that season, and he ranked 9th in ERA in the Japanese Professional Baseball League (between Michio Nishizawa and Saburo Asaoka), 3rd in wins (tied with Jiro Noguchi), 5th in strikeouts (between Isamu Fukushi and Minoru Kasamatsu), 5th in losses (between Tokuji Kawasaki and Toshihide Hatafuku), 2nd in complete games (tied with Noguchi) and 2nd in innings (52 behind Fukushi). He was 24-20 with a 1.14 ERA in 1942, and he ranked 3rd in ERA (between Victor Starffin and Shuichi Hirose), 5th in wins (between Tadashi Wakabayashi and Hirose), 4th in complete games (tied with Starffin), 3rd in strikeouts (between Yasuo Hayashi and Hiroshi Nakao), 3rd in losses (between Hayashi and Shinichi Ishimaru) and 5th in innings (between Wakabayashi and Hirotaro Mori). Kanda suffered from lung disease that season, and he often were a mask while pitching. He even had hemoptysis in the middle of the game, and he passed away in 1943.

Overall, Kanda went 49-35 with a 1.36 ERA, struck out 228 and pitched 716 2/3 innings in 2 seasons in NPB.
