Biographical Information[edit]

Takehide Sato played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 9 years.

Sato was drafted by the Kintetsu Buffaloes in the 6th round of the 1969 NPB draft, and he was 8-for-33 in 1971 after staying in the minors for a year. He hit .200/.262/.400 in 1972, and he had a 8-for-44 record in 1973. Sato played 86 games with a .241/.323/.458 batting line in 1974, and he became Kintetsu's starting left fielder in 1975. He crushed a career-high 11 homers with a .239/.330/.472 batting line in '75, then he recorded a .254/.349/.369 batting line in 70 games in 1976. Sato lost his spot after Mitsuyasu Hirano shined in 1977, and he only got 26 at-bats combined in the next two seasons. The Buffaloes then traded him with Toshio Kanbe and Yoshitaka Terada to the Yakult Swallows for Yasunori Nagao and Charlie Manuel, but he went 4-for-29 in 1979 and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Sato hit .219/.296/.382 with 127 hits and 24 homers in 9 seasons in NPB.
