Biographical Information

Tadahiro Ogino pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 5 years.

Ogino went 33-7 with a 0.87 ERA in the Kanagawa University Baseball League, and he won three consecutive MVPs. He helped Japan to a Silver Medal in the 2004 World University Championship. Ogino was drafted by the Chiba Lotte Marines in the 4th round in the 2006 NPB draft, and he notched 20 holds with a 2.28 ERA in 58 games in his first season. He was 4th in the Pacific League in appearances (tied with Yasuhiko Yabuta) and 4th in holds (between Koji Mitsui and Akio Mizuta). When Masahide Kobayashi left the team in 2008, Ogino was named the new closer of the Marines. He collected 30 saves with a 2.45 ERA in 58 relief outings, and he was 6th in games (tied with Yoshinori Tateyama and Kazuya Motoyanagi) and 3rd in saves (3 behind Daisuke Kato). Ogino returned to the setup man spot in 2009 and Brian Sikorski replaced him as closer. He notched 10 holds and 9 saves, and his ERA was 3.65 in 53 games. Ogino was 7th in saves, between Kazuo Fukumori and Shinichiro Koyama. He only pitched 9 games combined in the next 5 seasons due to right elbow and left knee injuries, and he announced his retirements in 2015.

Overall, Ogino was 9-11 with a 2.87 ERA, collected 32 holds and 40 saves in 178 appearances, struck out 120 and pitched 172 1/3 innings in 5 seasons in NPB.
