Biographical Information[edit]

Akio Mizuta pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 11 years.

Mizuta was drafted by the Daiei Hawks in the 5th round of the 1998 NPB draft, and he had a 5.23 ERA in 15 games in his first season. He then had a 2.76 ERA in 14 appearances in 2000, but he only pitched 8 games combined in the next two seasons. Mizuta pitched 15 games with a 6.91 ERA in 2003, and his ERA was 4.82 in 14 relief outings in 2004. He mainly stayed in the minors in the next two seasons, and he finally broke out in 2007. Mizuta collected 19 holds with a 2.25 ERA in 45 appearances, and he was 5th in holds in the Pacific League (between Tadahiro Ogino and Kazuya Motoyanagi). He slumped to a 6.75 ERA in 15 games in 2008, and he got 8 holds with a 3.19 ERA in 46 relief outings in 2009. However, Mizuta struggled in 2010 as his ERA rose to 7.62 in 14 games, and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Mizuta was 16-13 with 35 holds and a 4.13 ERA, struck out 202 and pitched 311 2/3innings in 11 seasons in NPB.
