Biographical Information[edit]

Skipper Wright pitched in the Atlanta Braves system from 1987 to 1990, peaking at High-A. He was signed as an undrafted free agent.

He went 3-6 with a 3.48 ERA, 13 saves and 25 games finished in 26 appearances for the Idaho Falls Braves in 1987, tying Mark Chapman for the Pioneer League lead in saves and finishing second in games finished, behind Tim Peters' 33. The next year, he went 8-5 with 24 saves and a 1.95 ERA in 45 appearances for the Sumter Braves; he finished all 45 games and averaged 9.6 strikeouts per 9 innings. He also led the South Atlantic League in saves and was second in games finished, behind Bob MacDonald's 48. In 1989, he went 5-1 with 13 saves, 29 games finished and a 2.10 ERA in 40 games for the Burlington Braves and in 1990, he went 6-7 with 8 saves, 22 games finished and a 3.16 ERA in 50 games (1 start) for the Durham Bulls.

Overall, he went 22-19 with 58 saves, 121 games finished and a 2.69 ERA in 161 games (1 start). In 270 2/3 innings, he allowed 237 hits and 83 walks (1.182 WHIP), while striking out 246 batters.

His son, Jarod Wright, began his professional career in 2021.
