Biographical Information[edit]

Shunji Nishimura played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 11 years.

Nishimura was drafted by the Kintetsu Buffaloes in the 3rd round of the 1969 NPB draft, and he hit .183/.212/.268 in 53 games in his first season. He went 2-for-19 in 1971, and he was 7-for-38 in 1972. Nishimura won the competition with Tomoo Sekine to get the starting shortstop spot in 1973, and he played 96 games with a .253/.318/.359 batting line. He then recorded a .228/.284/.317 batting line in 1974, and he collected 7 triples with a .216/.271/.296 batting line in 1975. Nishimura's batting line was .222/.266/.278 in 1976, and he was moved to the second base after Shigeru Ishiwata shined in 1977. He played a career-high 118 games with a .210/.261/.266 batting line that season, and he hit .236/.300/.328 in 1978. Nishimura lost his spot after Yasunori Nagao and Chris Arnold joined the team in 1979, and he was 4-for-19 in 36 games. He went 5-for-21 in 1980, and he announced his retirement. Nishimura later became a scout, signing Takayuki Murakami and Kazuhiko Yamashita.

Overall, Nishimura hit .222/.277/.300 with 342 hits and 16 homers in 11 seasons in NPB.
