Biographical Information[edit]
Tomoo Sekine played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 11 years.
Sekine signed with the Taiyo Whales in 1963, and he went 2-for-6 in his first season. He hit .160/.232/.213 in 65 games in 1965, and he recorded a .189/.259/.264 batting line in 1966. Sekine went 4-for-26 in 1967, and he had a 8-for-26 record in 1968. He then played 80 games with a .193/.245/.290 batting line as Taiyo's main infield utility man in 1969, and he hit .144/.221/.252 in 87 games in 1970. Sekine went to the Kintetsu Buffaloes in 1971, and he shared the starting second baseman spot with Yukio Iida. His batting line was .201/.243/.287 in 103 games, and he improved to .281/.336/.385 in 1972. Sekine batted .176/.233/.284 in 94 games in 1973, and he announced his retirement after he went 0-for-1 in 1974.
Overall, Sekine hit .198/.256/.296 with 182 hits and 18 homers in 11 seasons in NPB.
