Biographical Information[edit]

Shu Yamagata has played in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Yamagata represented Japan in the 2024 Haarlemse Honkbalweek, hitting .167/.318/.167. [1] The Nippon Ham Fighters selected him in the 5th round of the 2024 NPB draft, the scout was Kazunori Yamamoto.[2] Yamagata debuted against the Chiba Lotte Marines on April 15, 2025, and he got his first hit against Aren Kuri on April 18. Yamagata crushed 2 homers against PL ERA title winner Liván Moinelo on September 9, and it was the first time that Moinelo allowed 2 homers to the same batter in his NPB career. Miraculously, those two homers were the second and third official homers for Yamagata since High School. He ended up hitting .232/.242/.319 with 3 homers in his rookie year, and he shined in the 2025 PLCS. Yamagata blasted a homer against Naoyuki Uwasawa in Final Stage Game 3, and he hit .231/.231/.615 in the final stage before his playoff ended due to a collision with Ukyo Shuto in Game 5. The Softbank Hawks beat the Fighters in 7 games. [3]
