Biographical Information

Shota Nakayama has played in Nippon Pro Baseball. His uncle Yoshimitsu Nakayama was a KBO outfielder

Nakayama represented Japan in the 2018 World University Baseball Championship, helping Japan win the title by batting .294/.333/.588. He was drafted by the Yakult Swallows in the 2nd round the 2018 NPB draft; the scout was Satoshi Kashibuchi. He hit .289/.310/.485 with 5 homers in 2019 (his 100 plate appearances were his career high in NPB through 2024); he was a solid backup outfielder behind Nori Aoki, Wladimir Balentien and Yuhei Takai, then he slumped to .229/.283/.500 in 2020. Nakayama only played 9 games for the big club in 2021, and he hit .237/.321/.335 in the NPB Farm Leagues. He didn't reach the top team in 2022, and the Swallows released him. Nakayama later played for the independent Hinokuni Salamanders in 2023, and he signed with the Oisix Niigata Albirex Baseball Club in 2024.
