Biographical Information[edit]

Shogo Asano has played in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Asano represented Japan in the 2019 BFA U-15 Baseball Championship and 2022 U-18 Baseball World Cup. Starting in left in the latter event, he hit .333/.467/.500 with 8 runs in 9 games for the Bronze Medalists. He tied for 7th in runs. [1] He was drafted by the Hanshin Tigers and Yomiuri Giants in the first round of the 2022 NPB draft, and the Giants won the lottery for the rights to him; the scout was Keisuke Kishi. [2] He debuted on July 8, 2023, and he crushed his first homer against Shohei Mori on August 18. Asano ended up hitting .250/.268/.350 in 24 games in his rookie year. He then played 40 games with 3 homers and a .240/.282/.404 batting line in 2024, and he got 8 votes for the 2024 CL Rookie of the Year, finishing third behind pitchers Hiromasa Funabasama and Takumi Kurohara.
