Biographical Information[edit]

Shiro Miyamoto pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 13 years.

Miyamoto was drafted by the Taiyo Whales in the second round of the 1974 NPB draft, and he pitched 7 1/3 shutout innings in 1975. He struggled in 1976 as he allowed 13 runs in 6 innings, then he pitched 35 games with a 4.93 ERA in 1977. Miyamoto recorded a 4.18 ERA with a 2-3 record in 41 appearances in 1978, then he went 0-2 with a 3.83 ERA in 1979. His ERA rose to 6.65 in 29 games in 1980, then the Whales traded him to the Hankyu Braves for Teruyuki Uno.

The Mie native was 2-5 with a 4.33 ERA in 1981, then he had a solid 2.83 ERA in 33 games in 1982. He only pitched 4 games in 1983, and he was turned into a starter in 1984. Miyamoto was 8-6 with a 3.99 ERA in '84 (back in relief for the 1984 Japan Series, he allowed one run in two innings; Hankyu fell to the Hiroshima Carp in seven games), but he then slumped to a 6.07 ERA in 16 games in 1985. His ERA was 5.60 in 18 games in 1986, and he was traded to the Hanshin Tigers for cash. Miyamoto only pitched 4 games in 1987, and he announced his retirement. He coached the Chinatrust Whales in 2001, and he became a scout for the Yokohama BayStars.

Overall, Miyamoto was 16-29 with a 4.48 ERA, struck out 371 and pitched 581 innings in 13 seasons in the NPB.
