Biographical Information[edit]

Shinji Ohara pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 6 years.

Ohara was drafted by the Yokohama BayStars in the fifth round of the 2010 NPB draft, and he had a 3.05 ERA in 71 games with 11 holds in 2011. His 71 appearances as a rookie were the most in two-league era, and he tied Yasuo Hayashi's 69-year-old NPB record. Ohara was 3rd in appearances, between Takahiro Aoki and Yuya Kubo. He recorded a 1.80 ERA in 33 games in 2012, and he collected 17 holds with a 3.00 ERA in 58 appearances in 2013. Ohara was 8th in holds (between Takeru Imamura and Kosuke Kato) and 8th in appearances (tied with Yuya Ando and Yuta Muto).

The Hitachi native notched 15 holds with a 4.45 ERA in 44 relief outings in 2014, then his ERA was 4.02 in 21 games in 2015. Ohara slumped to a 4.97 ERA in 16 games in 2016, and he stayed in the minors for the entire 2017 season. The BayStars then released him, and he announced his retirement. He became an assistant pitching coach for the BayStars in 2023.

Overall, Ohara was 10-3 with a 3.26 ERA, collected 55 holds and 2 saves in 243 appearances, struck out 149 and pitched 188 innings in 6 seasons in the NPB.
