Biographical Information[edit]

Shinichi Nishikawa pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 10 years.

Nishikawa was drafted by the Kintetsu Buffaloes in the 2nd round of the 1993 NPB draft, and he only pitched 15 games combined in his first season for the big club. He pitched 51 games with a 3.00 ERA in 1997, and he had a 2.87 ERA in 61 appearances in 1998. Nishikawa was 4th in Pacific League in games, between Shuji Yoshida and Hiroki Sakai. He then had a 3.42 ERA in 22 games in 1999, but his ERA rose to 7.71 in 11 games in 2000. The Buffaloes traded him with Takashi Yoshida to the Hanshin Tigers for Kento Sugiyama in the middle of the '00 season, and he bounced back as his ERA was 1.93 in 45 games in the rest of the season. However, Nishikawa struggled again in 2001, and his ERA was 7.78 in 28 games. He only pitched 5 games in 2002, and he was released. The Hiroshima Carp signed him, and Nishikawa recorded a 7.15 ERA in 43 appearances in 2003. He only got one appearance in 2004, and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Nishikawa was 4-5 with a 3.91 ERA, struck out 159 and pitched 246 1/3 innings in 282 games in 10 seasons in NPB.
