Biographical Information[edit]

In his major league debut for the San Diego Padres on September 1, 1996, Sean Mulligan was announced into the game as a pinch-hitter for P Willie Blair in the 8th inning of a game against the !Montreal Expos, then was immediately removed in favor of Scott Livingstone when the Expos replaced lefty Jeff Fassero by righty Mike Dyer. That represented half of his major league career, with his other game coming on September 6th, when he did get to bat as a pinch-hitter. Facing Danny Jackson of the St. Louis Cardinals, he grounded out. He never played in the field.

His professional career lasted from 1991 to 2002. He was principally a catcher and played in the Padres system until 1996. In 1997, he only appeared in 2 games for the Akron Aeros in the AA Eastern League. He then played in the Mexican League and in various independent leagues for the remainder of his career, apart from brief stints with the Ottawa Lynx in 2000 (15 games) and Rochester Red Wings and Bowie Baysox (13 games combined) in 2001. In his best pro season, he hit .288 with 19 homers and 75 RBIs for the Las Vegas Stars prior to his September call-up in 1996.
