Biographical Information[edit]
Outfielder Scott Goodman played in the Florida Marlins system from 1999 to 2001 and in independent ball from 2002 to 2007.
He was drafted three times. Initially, he was taken by the San Francisco Giants in the 17th round of the 1997 amateur draft, two picks after catcher Johnny Estrada, but opted not to sign. He was then taken by the Giants in the 43rd round of the 1998 amateur draft, but again did not sign. He finally inked a deal after being taken by the Marlins in the 10th round of the 1999 amateur draft, ahead of future All-Star Marlon Byrd. He was signed by scout David Finley.
While in the Marlins system, he hit .244/.373/.421 with 24 home runs and 96 RBI in 231 games. Perhaps his best campaign was 2000, when he hit .234/.365/.421 with 16 home runs and 54 RBI in 129 games for the Kane County Cougars. In 1999, he led the New York-Penn League in double plays grounded into with 10. He had more success in indy ball, hitting .279/.384/.455 with 48 home runs and 238 RBI in 374 games. Perhaps his best campaign at that level was 2005, when he hit .310/.416/.508 with 12 home runs and 69 RBI in 88 games for the San Diego Surf Dawgs of the Golden Baseball League.
Overall, Goodman hit .266/.380/.443 with 72 home runs and 334 RBI in 605 games over 9 seasons.
