Biographical Information[edit]

Scot Hemmings played in the minors then became a college coach.

Hemmings was All-city in football and All-State in baseball in high school. The New York Yankees took him in the 61st round of the 1995 amateur draft. He continued to college, setting the school record for steals as a freshman. He earned a scholarship to Columbus State University, but was picked by the San Diego Padres in the 18th round of the 1997 amateur draft and elected for pro ball instead.

In his pro debut, he hit .202/.270/.346 for the AZL Padres, with 18 runs in 28 games and 4 steals in 4 tries but 33 K in 104 at-bats. He split 1998 between the Idaho Falls Braves (.275/.362/.415) and Las Vegas Stars (1 for 8, BB). The right fielder tied Paul Weichard for 10th in the Pioneer League in steals (19 in 21 tries) and also tied Matt Halloran for 10th in the Padres chain in this department. He batted .111/.238/.139 in 12 games for the 1999 Fort Wayne Wizards. He had hit .229/.315/.352 in 92 games as a pro. The speedster had gone 24-for-26 in steal attempts and scored 49 runs.

After his playing days, Hemmings earned his undergraduate degree from Troy State in 2002, and his post-grad in 2005. He was assistant coach at Chattahoochee Valley Community College in 2003-2004, before becoming head coach at Andrew College in 2005-2008. He was then head coach of Central-Phenix High School from 2009 to 2011. He was head coach of Darton State College from 2012-2016, taking the school to the 2016 NJCAA Division I Baseball World Series. He set the school records for wins in 2012 (38-20) and 2013 (47-9). He won 212 games in 5 years. He then became head coach of Albany State University.
