Biographical Information[edit]
Sakae Shigeri played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 3 years.
Shigeri signed with the Nagoya club in 1937, and he went 1-8 with a 6.11 ERA in the fall season. He was 1-3 with a 5.06 ERA in 1938 spring season, and he improved to 1-3 with a 3.86 ERA in the fall season. Shigeri went 14-18 with a 2.31 ERA in 1939, and he tied Kuranosuke Furuya for 8th in losses in the Japan Professional Baseball League. Shigeri also ranked 8th in ERA, between Masao Nakamoto and Yukio Nishimura. However, he suffered from severe low back pain, and his professional career ended.
Overall, Shigeri was 17-32 with a 3.23 ERA, struck out 116 and pitched 378 1/3 innings in 4 seasons in NPB.
