Biographical Information[edit]

Submariner Masao Nakamoto played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 5 years.

Nakamoto signed with the Nankai club in 1938, and he went 4-7 with a 2.94 in his first season. He was 18-19 with a 2.21 ERA in 1939, and he ranked 5th in the Japanese Professional Baseball League in wins (between Masayoshi Nakayama and Satoshi Takahashi), 5th in losses (tied with Jiro Noguchi and Isamu Fukushi), 8th in ERA (between Michio Shigematsu and Sakae Shigesato), 5th in complete games (between Nakayama and Wakabayashi) and 5th in innings (between Tadashi Kameda and Yoshio Kikuya). He then had a 12-24 record in 1940, and he ranked 3rd in losses (between Kikuya and Kameda). Nakamoto missed two seasons as he enlisted into the military, and he had a 4.63 ERA in 7 games in 1943. He was 3-10 with a 2.16 ERA in 1944, and he was on a transport ship that was sunk by American warships in the route to Iwo Jima.

Overall, Nakamoto was 37-63 with a 2.29 ERA, struck out 274 and pitched 931 1/3 innings in 5 seasons in NPB.
