Biographical Information[edit]
Ryunosuke Higuchi played for the Oisix Niigata Albirex Baseball Club from 2017 to 2019, and he was drafted by the Nippon Ham Fighters in the 2nd round of the development phase in the 2019 NPB draft; the scout was Kazuhito Tadano. He played 25 games with a .140/.283/.200 batting line for the big club in 2020, and he had a solid .342/.441/.651 batting line in the NPB Farm Leagues. Had he qualified, he would've been third in the Eastern League in average (after Shohei Kato and Akito Takabe), 2nd in OBP (after Seiya Hosokawa) and first in slugging and OPS. As it stood, he was still tied for second in homers (12, one behind Hosokawa) and tied Aito Takeda for 6th in RBI (32). Higuchi hit .212/.241/.269 in 21 games in 2021, but he failed to return to the big club in 2022 and he announced his retirement.
