Ryotaro Sawayanagi has played in Nippon Pro Baseball.
Sawayanagi represented Japan in the 2022 U-23 Baseball World Cup, posting a 2.33 ERA in five outings for the champs and striking out nine in six innings; he saved Raiku Katayama's win over Mexico. He trailed only Ryusei Gonda in appearances for the event. [1] He was drafted by the Softbank Hawks in the 5th round of the 2023 NPB draft; the scout was Akira Matsumoto.[2] He was 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA in the NPB Farm Leagues in 2024, and he pitched 11 games with a 1.93 ERA with the top team. However, Sawayanagi then underwent Tommy John surgery, and he missed the entire 2025 season.
