Biographical Information

Ryotaro Sawayanagi has played in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Sawayanagi represented Japan in the 2022 U-23 Baseball World Cup, posting a 2.33 ERA in five outings for the champs and striking out nine in six innings; he saved Raiku Katayama's win over Mexico. He trailed only Ryusei Gonda in appearances for the event. He was drafted by the Softbank Hawks in the 5th round of the 2023 NPB draft; the scout was Akira Matsumoto. He was 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA in the NPB Farm Leagues in 2024, and he pitched 11 games with a 1.93 ERA with the top team. However, Sawayanagi then underwent Tommy John surgery, and he missed the entire 2025 season.
