Biographical Information[edit]

Ryoma Matsuda played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 7 years.

Matsuda was drafted by the Hanshin Tigers in the 5th round of the 2011 NPB draft, and he spent his first season in the NPB Farm Leagues, going 3-2 with a 3.86 ERA. He notched 5 holds with a 4.25 ERA in 27 games in 2013, but he suffered from an elbow injury in 2014 so he only pitched 6 games with a 1.93 ERA for the big club. Matsuda pitched a shutout inning in the 2014 Nippon Series Game 2, and the Tigers lost to the SoftBank Hawks in 5 games. His ERA rose to 5.74 in 30 games in 2015, and he had a solid 1.00 ERA in 22 games in 2016. However, Matsuda struggled again in 2017 as he had a 5.05 ERA in 26 games, and the Tigers traded him to the Hawks for Yuya Iida. Matsuda only pitched 2 games in 2018, then he notched 5 holds with a 3.81 ERA in 51 relief outings in 2019. He was placed in the minors for the entire 2020 season, and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Matsuda was 8-10 with 19 holds and a 4.03 ERA, struck out 185 and pitched 183 1/3 innings in 7 seasons in NPB.
