Biographical Information[edit]

Starting pitcher Robert Bono played professionally from 2007 to 2011, peaking at Double-A.

He was taken by the Houston Astros in the 11th round of the 2007 amateur draft, one pick after pitcher Anthony Ranaudo. He was signed by scout Tim Harrington. In 2008, while with the Tri-City ValleyCats, he led the New York-Pennsylvania League in hits allowed (97) and tied for second in runs allowed (53, with David Stokes, behind Antonio Noguera's 56). His best season was 2009, when he went 10-8 with a 3.20 ERA in 25 starts for the Lexington Legends; in 143 1/3 innings, he allowed just 19 walks. His 3 complete games were second in the South Atlantic League, behind Kyle Nicholson's 4, and he was a Mid-Season All-Star that year. On December 9, he was traded with fellow minor leaguer Luis Bryan and a player to be named later (Jorge Jimenez) to the Florida Marlins for pitcher Matt Lindstrom. In 2010, he led the Florida State League in hits allowed (187), tied Dae-Eun Rhee for second in losses (13, behind Heitor Correa's 14), and finished second in earned runs allowed (82, behind Correia's 101). He wrapped up his career in indy ball in 2011.

Overall, Bono went 19-34 with a 5.04 ERA in 94 games (85 starts). In 462 1/3 innings, he allowed 585 hits and 113 walks (1.510 WHIP), while striking out 246 batters.

He later became an assistant coach at Central Connecticut State University.
