Biographical Information[edit]
C/1B Rafael Flores was the Minor League Player of the Year for the New York Yankees by Baseball America in 2024 when he hit .279 with 21 homers and 68 RBIs in 124 games split between the Hudson Valley Renegades and the Somerset Patriots. It was his third professional season after signing with the Yankees as an undrafted free agent on July 25, 2022.
He started the 2025 season with Somerset, where he hit .287 with 15 homers and 56 RBIs in 87 games. On July 19th, he was promoted to the AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, but only stayed there two weeks as on July 31st he was one of three players traded by the Yankees to the Pittsburgh Pirates in return for P David Bednar; he was considered the top prospect in the deal. He stayed in the International League, moving to the Indianapolis Indians, where he hit .281 in 36 games with 6 homers and 28 RBIs. On September 16th, his contract was selected by the Pirates and fhe made his debut the next day, starting at first base against the Chicago Cubs. He collected his first major league hit when he doubled off Matthew Boyd in the 2nd inning
