Biographical Information

Phil Leftwich was the first pick in Radford University history, going in the second round of the 1990 amateur draft. He would remain the highest Radford pick for 22 years, before Eddie Butler went in the supplemental 1st round in 2012.

Leftwich is the biological son of former major league pitcher Tom Timmermann, but did not know this for years, as he was adopted as an infant; the two established a relationship in later life. His son, Luke Leftwich, was drafted in the 7th round of the 2015 amateur draft by the Philadelphia Phillies and playted seven years in the minor leagues, reaching AAA.
