Biographical Information[edit]

Pete Manos played for the USA national baseball team and in the minor leagues.

Manos represented the USA in the 1974 Amateur World Series, which they won. He began his professional career with the Philadelphia Phillies organization, and he was 4-1 with a 2.25 ERA and 6 saves for the Spartanburg Phillies in 1975. He collected 17 saves with a 9-4 record and a superb 1.16 ERA and .85 WHIP for the Peninsula Pilots in 1976. He tied Derek Botelho for 7th in the Phillies chain in wins, was second in appearances (51, two behind Dave Wallace) and led in saves. In the Carolina League, he easily led in ERA (1.20 ahead of Frank Ciammachilli), led in games pitched (7 more than Don Driskill) and led in saves (3 ahead of Al Holland) but was still left off the All-Star team! He went 10-7 with a 3.93 ERA in 52 appearances with 5 saves for the Reading Phillies in 1977; he only had 16 unintentional walks in 110 IP. He tied for 10th in the Eastern League in wins and led in games pitched (6 ahead of Geoff Combe). He tied for 7th in the Phils system in wins and trailed only Jeff Schneider and Wallace in games pitched. Manos notched 14 saves with a 8-7 record and a 2.11 ERA in 52 relief outings in Reading in 1978. In the Philadelphia organization, he was second in appearances (two behind Jerry Reed) and saves (5 behind Reed). He was one appearance and one save behind EL pacesetter Willie Mueller. Back with Reading, his ERA was 2.61 in 12 games in 1979. He reached AAA that season, but his ERA rose to 6.06 in 29 games for the Oklahoma City 89ers. He went 0-4 with a 5.36 ERA for the Tacoma Tigers affiliated with the Cleveland Indians in 1980, and he announced his retirement.
