Playing Career[edit]
Pat Hallmark enrolled at Alvin Community College following two all-district selections at Westbury High School in Houston, TX. Hallmark earned All-Conference honors both years at Alvin CC (1993-1994) before accepting a scholarship to Rice University. In 1995, he earned All-Southwest Conference honors at Rice before being drafted in the 18th round of the 1995 Amateur Draft by the Kansas City Royals. Hallmark was assigned and spent the 1995 season in low-A with the Spokane Indians where he hit .304 in 56 games and was primarily a catcher.
In 1996 with the Lansing Lugnuts, Hallmark appeared in 118 games during which he stole 33 bases and hit .280; he played primarily in center or right field. 1997 saw Hallmark split time between single-A Lansing for 88 games before being called up to high-A to finish the season with the Wilmington Blue Rocks. The 1997 season also saw Hallmark spend most of his time behind the plate. He spent 1998 in Wilmington, appearing in 103 games before making the jump to the Double-A Wichita Wranglers for the 1999 campaign. In 75 games, Hallmark hit .285 and played mainly in the outfield. He spent the 2000 season in Wichita again, where he enjoyed his most successful season at the plate to date, hitting .326 with 79 RBI and a .409 OBP.
Hallmark made his AAA debut in 2001 appearing in 32 games for the Omaha Golden Spikes of the Pacific Coast League, where he hit .247 playing left field before a season-ending injury. For 2002 in his age-28 season, Hallmark spent the year in AA Wichita, where he struggled in 98 games hitting .254. Hallmark spent 2003 in the San Francisco Giants organization in Double-A, playing for the Norwich Navigators. In 135 games, Hallmark hit .235 before calling it a career as a player.
Coaching Career[edit]
Hallmark began coaching in 2005 at St. Thomas High School in Houston. He was then hired by his former coach at Rice University as an assistant in 2006, a role he held until 2012. In 2013 he was promoted to pitching coach at Rice, staying through the 2016 season. In 2017, Hallmark moved to the University of Missouri where he was the Tigers' pitching coach for one season. He was then hired as the head coach at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, TX for the 2018 season. He led the Cardinals to their best record (29-26) since joining NCAA Division-I. In 2019, Hallmark was named Southland Conference Coach of the Year after leading UIW to a 37-22 season and their first appearance in the Southland Conference Tournament. Hallmark was hired by the University of Texas at San Antonio for the 2020 season.
