Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Owen Murphy was drafted by the Atlanta Braves with the 20th pick in the 1st round of the 2022 amateur draft, out of a high school in the suburbs of Chicago, IL. He signed with the Braves for a signing bonus of $2.56 million and gave up a commitment to attend the University of Notre Dame in order to do so.

In first professional season in 2022, he made 5 starts between the FCL Braves and Augusta GreenJackets of the Carolina League, going 0-1, 4.50 in 12 innings. In 2023, he started off in Augusta, making 18 starts, then was promoted to the Rome Braves of the South Atlantic League, for 3 more starts. In 21 games overall, he went 6-4, 4.72 with 113 strikeouts in 89 2/3 innings. In 2024, he made 7 starts for Rome, with the team having being re-named the Rome Emperors, going 4-2, 1.54. He was named the SAL Pitcher of the Month for April, and was twice its Pitcher of the Week in the early going; however, his season ended at the end of May when he had to undergo Tommy John surgery.
