Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Nick Davila only spent one season at the University of South Florida after two years of community college, and as luck would have it, it was the 2020 season that ended in mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He had had time to get into 7 games before then, going 2-1, 5.25, but the pandemic also led to the 2020 amateur draft being shortened to just five rounds and he was one of numerous players whose career plans were upended by this unforeseen development. He therefore had to sign his first professional contract that July as an undrafted free agent and for a minimal signing bonus, hooking up with the Detroit Tigers.

He began his pro career in 2021 when the minor leagues resumed play after a one-year hiatus, going 6-8, 3.54 in 27 games as a swingman for the Lakeland Flying Tigers. He was with the same team in 2022 and finished at 3-5, 3.65 in 13 games (11 starts), his season being cut short by an injury in mid-July. He was then released just a couple of weeks into spring training in 2023, but managed to hook up with the Seattle Mariners later that spring. He had a whirlwind first season in their organization as he started in the Low-A Northwest League (the same level as Lakeland), then moved up to High-A and to AAA before the season ended, capped by three starts with the Tacoma Rainiers of the Pacific Coast League. His overall stat line was 5-9, 4.51 in 22 games (18 starts), with 109 strikeouts in 117 2/3 innings. He had skipped AA in 2024, but a spent a full year there in 2025, now as a full-time relief pitcher with the Arkansas Travelers of the Texas League. He was 1-4, 3.55 with 4 saves in 39 outings and 50 2/3 innings.

He was back at Arkansas at the start of the 2026 season, giving up just 2 runs while striking out 10 in his first 9 innings, when he was called up to Seattle on May 2nd, bypassing AAA. He made his debut the next day with a scoreless inning of relief in a 4-1 loss to the Kansas City Royals.
