Mitsuo Osaki played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.
Osaki signed with the Osaka Tigers in 1953, and he went 0-2 with a 5.00 ERA in his first season. He was 2-1 with a 1.89 ERA in 1954, and he had a 8-13 record with a 3.00 ERA in 1955. Osaki broke out in 1956, and he went 25-14 with a 1.65 ERA. He led the Central League with 37 starts, and he was 5th in ERA (between Toshitake Nakayama and Masaaki Koyama), 2nd in wins (tied with Noboru Akiyama and Masaichi Kaneda), 2nd in appearances (5 behind Kaneda), 4th in innings (between Ryohei Hasegawa and Takehiko Bessho) and 8th in strikeouts (between Shigeru Sugishita and Sho Horiuchi).
The Tokyo native extended his solid performance in 1957, and he was 20-7 with a 2.09 ERA. He ranked 4th in wins (tied with Nakayama and Yoshio Bizen), 5th in ERA (between Shozo Watanabe and Yoshinori Kido), 10th in appearances (between Bizen and Kido), 6th in complete games (tied with Koyama), 8th in losses (tied with Motoshi Fujita and Bizen) and 6th in innings (between Zenjiro Tadokoro and Bizen). He slumped to 8-12 with a 3.33 ERA in 1958, and the Tigers released him. He signed with the Kintetsu Buffaloes, and he was 2-8 with a 3.49 ERA in 1959. His ERA rose to 6.63 in 17 games in 1960, and he announced his retirement. He later became the minor league pitching coach for the Tigers from 1979 to 1980.
Overall, Osaki was 66-70 with a 2.54 ERA, struck out 482 and pitched 1,107 2/3 innings in 8 seasons in NPB.
