Biographical Information[edit]

Mitsuhiro Kataoka was drafted by the Hiroshima Carp in the first round of the 1979 NPB draft. He pitched 5 games with a 9.81 ERA in 1981, and he suffered from an elbow injury so he was turned into an infielder. Kataoka hit .318/.366/.561 games in 1987, and he played 95 games with a .238/.303/.390 batting line with 10 homers in 1988. He was then traded with Hiroyuki Saito to the Chunichi Dragons for Shingo Motomura and Tetsuya Katahira, and he hit .196/.211/.286 in 30 games in 1989. Kataoka missed the next season due to a herniated disc, and he was sent to the Taiyo Whales for Katsunori Kitano. Kataoka only played 7 more games for the big club, and he announced his retirement in 1991.
