Biographical Information[edit]

Shortstop Mikey Romero was the 24th selection of the first round of the 2022 amateur draft, taken by the Boston Red Sox out of a high school in southern California.

He dealt with back issues over his first few seasons in professional baseball, after playing 19 games between the FCL Red Sox and Salem Red Sox of the Carolina League and hitting .304 in 2022. In 2023, he was limited to 34 games spread over three teams, hitting just .214. In 2024, he once again played for three teams, including a few games in the Florida Complex League for the third straight year, but did have 59 games in the High-A South Atlantic League with the Greenville Drive and another 16 in the AA Eastern League with the Portland Sea Dogs. His batting line was .271/.312/.509, with 24 doubles, 16 homers, and 53 RBIs. He was the Sally League Player of the Month in July.

His health issues now fully behind him, he went to spring training in 2025 considered as one of the top prospects of Boston's system, and with an outside chance of starting the year in the majors. He was assigned to AA instead, however.

He has two sisters who are both professional softball players, Sierra and Sydney, who both played in the inaugural season of the Athletes United Softball League in 2025. A third, younger, sister, Sophia, is a college softball player. Their father, Michael Romero, was a longtime softball coach before passing away from cancer in February of 2024.
