Biographical Information[edit]
Outfielder Mike Sirota holds the distinction of having been traded before playing his first professional game. He was first drafted out of high school in the 16th round of the 2021 amateur draft, by the Los Angeles Dodgers, but decided to go to college. After playing three seasons at Northeastern University and two in the Cape Cod League, he was selected again in the 2024 amateur draft, this time in the 3rd round by the Cincinnati Reds. In 2023, he had hit .348 with 18 homers and 54 RBIs in 55 games for Northeastern, also setting a school record with 73 runs scored, but he had slumped a bit in 2024, to .298 with 7 homers and 37 RBIs in 51 games. It was perhaps a case of opposing teams pitching around him, as he drew a school-record 59 walks that year.
Sirota did not see any minor league action after signing with the Reds on July 19th, even though he was assigned to the ACL Reds. Thus, he had yet to make his professional debut when he was traded to the Dodgers, the team that had had its eyes on him back in 2021, along with a Competitive Balance Round A pick in the 2025 amateur draft, in return for 2B Gavin Lux.
He is supposedly a great-nephew of Hall of Fame pitcher Whitey Ford.
