Biographical Information[edit]
Reliever Mike Mongiello played in the Chicago White Sox system from 1989 to 1995. Though he spent part or all of three seasons at Triple-A, he never ascended to the majors.
He was drafted by Chicago in the 7th round of the 1989 amateur draft and began his career that year. By his second season, he was 6-6 with 13 saves and a 3.30 ERA in 38 games (15 starts) for the South Bend White Sox. The next year, he was 4-4 with 23 saves and a 2.25 ERA in 55 games for the Sarasota White Sox. Following that season, he never saved more than 8 games in a season or posted an ERA below 3.65. He reached Triple-A for the first time in 1993, going 6-5 with a 4.25 ERA in 39 games (9 starts) for the Nashville Sounds; he was 6-5, 3.94 in 46 games (10 starts) on the year as a whole.
Overall, Mongiello went 32-30 with 55 saves and a 3.64 ERA in 284 games (50 starts). In 601 innings, he allowed 567 hits and 276 walks (1.403 WHIP), while striking out 506 batters. At Triple-A, he was 13-13 with a 4.36 ERA in 115 games (22 starts).
