Biographical Information[edit]

Mike Butcher was signed by the Kansas City Royals and scout Carl Blando as a 2nd round pick in the 1986 amateur draft. He made 115 appearances over four seasons (1992 to 1995) with the California Angels. In 137 innings, he posted an 11-4, 4.37 record with 9 saves.

Mike was the pitching coach for the Butte Copper Kings in 2000, Arkansas Travelers in 2001 and the Salt Lake Stingers in 2002. He was the Anaheim Angels' roving pitching instructor from 2003 to 2005 and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays pitching coach during the 2006 season. In 2007, he became pitching coach of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, replacing Bud Black. As spring training opened in 2011, he underwent emergency surgery to remove a cancerous nodule on his thyroid gland; the cancer was detected early and he made a full recovery without missing significant time. He stayed on as Angels' pitching coach until the end of the 2015 season. In 2016, he was appointed pitching coach of the Arizona Diamondbacks, staying until the end of 2019.
