Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Matt Pushard was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals from the Miami Marlins in the 2025 Rule V Draft. He made the Cardinals out of spring training in 2026 and was already 28 years old when he made his big league debut on March 29th against the Tampa Bay Rays. It was a rather forgettable one, as in one inning of relief, he gave up 3 runs on 3 hits and a walk.

He is the rare major leaguer from Maine, having not only been born in the state but attending the University of Maine as well. He spent no less than six years with the Black Bears between 2017 and 2022, having been red-shirted a first time in 2018, when he was injured after appearing in just one game, and then getting an extra year of eligibility like everyone else whose 2020 season was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic. By the time he exhausted his collegiate eligibility, he was in graduate school. He went undrafted out of college but quickly signed a contract with the Marlins on July 23, 2022 and began his pro career that same year with the FCL Marlins. He reached AAA in 2024 and spent a full season with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp of the International League in 2025, going 4-5, 3.61 with 4 saves in 49 games, before being drafted by St. Louis.
