Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Matt Ford was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 3rd round of the 1999 Amateur Draft from J. P. Taravella High School in Coral Springs, FL. After four years in the Blue Jays minor league system, the Milwaukee Brewers selected Ford in the Rule 5 Draft following the 2002 season. Ford made his major league debut with the Brewers in 2003. He appeared in 25 games, including four starts that season. Ford returned to the minor leagues in 2004 where he continued to pitch through 2006. After leaving affiliated ball, Ford played for two more seasons in the independent leagues.

Ford turned to coaching in 2008 as a pitching coach at West Broward High School. He stayed with the Bobcats until August 2011 when he joined the University of Akron Zips as an assistant coach. Ford spent the 2012-2013 seasons as the Zips pitching coach.

The Pittsburgh Pirates hired Ford in 2014. He reportedly worked with the Bristol Pirates that season in some capacity. In 2015, he was a player/pitching coach for the West Virginia Black Bears. The Pirates promoted him to the West Virginia Power in 2016 followed by another promotion to the Bradenton Marauders for the 2017-2018 seasons. Ford spent 2019-2020 as the Pirates rehab pitching coach. Ford returned to on-field coaching in 2021. He was the pitching coach for the Greensboro Grasshoppers in 2021, the FCL Pirates in 2022, Bradenton again in 2023-2024, and the Altoona Curve in 2025. Ford returned to the Marauders for a third time in 2026.
