Biographical Information

Masayuki Yamazaki played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 5 years.

Yamazaki signed with the Yomiuri Giants in 1961, and he went 9-5 with a 2.17 ERA in his first season. He only pitched 11 games with a 3.00 ERA in 1962, and he completed the first perfect game in the NPB Farm Leagues on May 27 against the Taiyo Whales. Yamazaki was then turned into a batter, and he crushed 5 homers with a .238/.379/.452 batting line in 1963. He crushed a solo home run against Kazuhisa Inao in the 1963 Nippon Series, and he went 3-for-16 in the series. The Giants beat the Nishitetsu Lions in 7 games. Yamazaki went 9-for-49 in 1964, and the Giants traded him with Yoshiyuki Ikezawa and Kazuhiko Sakazaki to the Toei Flyers for Katsutoyo Yoshida, Motohiro Ando and Sekio Ishihara. He went 8-for-31 in 1965, and he also pitched 15 games with a 3.89 ERA. Yamazaki stayed in the minors for the entire 1966 season, and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Yamazaki was 12-6 with a 2.61 ERA, struck out 108 and pitched 210 1/3 innings in 5 seasons in NPB. He hit .213/.308/.355 with 45 hits as a batter.
