He was drafted by the Kintetsu Buffaloes in the first round of the 1990 NPB draft after they lost the lottery for the rights to Hideo Koike, and he spent his first 5 seasons in the NPB Farm Leagues. Teramae pitched 2 games with a 5.68 ERA in 1996, then he led the Hawaii Winter League with a 1.50 ERA for the Honolulu Sharks, beating out runner-up Hideki Okajima (a future major leaguer) by .50 for the ERA title. He had a 2-0 record for the Sharks. He went 0-4 with a 4.73 ERA in 1997. The Buffaloes then released him, and he signed with the Hanshin Tigers. However, Teramae never reached the big club again, and he announced his retirement in 1999.
