Biographical Information[edit]

Masanori Matsui played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 9 years.

Matsui was drafted by the Nankai Hawks in the 3rd round of the 1968 NPB draft, and he spent his first three seasons mainly in the NPB Farm Leagues. He hit .193/.260/.227 in 34 games in 1972, and he was 7-for-22 in 1973. He was 6-for-29 in 1974, then the Hawks traded him to the Yakult Swallows for Shigeo Sugiyama. Matsui didn't get many chances with the Swallows as he only had 22 at-bats combined in 5 years, and he announced his retirement in 1979. He later managed Yakult's minor league team in 1994, and he was their bench coach from 1995 to 1998. Matsui went to the Hanshin Tigers in the same position from 1999 to 2001, and he became a scout from 2002 to 2004. The Rakuten Golden Eagles named him their minor league manager from 2005 to 2009, and he returned to the Swallows as minor league coach from 2011 to 2013.

Overall, Matsui hit .199/.256/.229 with 33 hits in 9 seasons in NPB.
