Biographical Information

Shigeo Sugiyama was drafted by the Yakult Atoms in the first round of the 1971 NPB draft, and he went 1-2 with a 7.39 ERA in 1972. He only pitched 4 games combined for the big club in the rest of his Yakult career, and he was traded to the Nankai Hawks for Masanori Matsui in 1975. Sugiyama failed to return to the big club, and he announced his retirement after that season..
