Biographical Information[edit]

Mark Johnston played in the minor leagues and for the USA national baseball team.

Johnston represented the USA in the 1977 Intercontinental Cup. [1] The New York Yankees picked him in the 3rd round of the 1978 Amateur Draft, and he hit .195/.330/.274 in 68 games for the Fort Lauderdale Yankees in 1978. He improved to .265/.407/.462 with 17 homers for the West Haven Yankees in 1979, and he recorded a .250/.372/.500 batting line in 33 games for the Nashville Sounds in 1980. He also hit .192/.337/.329 in 50 games for the Alexandria Dukes, and he missed the 1981 season.

The Milwaukee Brewers signed him, and Johnston played 81 games with a .237/.336/.368 batting line for the El Paso Diablos in 1982. He then blasted 14 homers with a .280/.385/.476 batting line for the Beloit Brewers in 1983, and his batting line was .282/.329/.451 with the Stockton Ports. Johnston returned to the Yankees system in 1984, and he had a .276/.421/.371 batting line in 80 games for the Fort Lauderdale Yankees. He also went 3-for-27 with the Greensboro Hornets, and that was his last year as a pro player.

Johnston was the hitting coach of the AAA Iowa Cubs in 1994, and he managed the independent Greenwood Grizzlies in 1995. He was also an assistant coach for the Mississippi State University and Spring Hill College, and he coached the McGill-Toolen Catholic High School and Cottage Hill Christian School. Johnston was the coach of the Bishop State Community College for about 10 years. [2]
