Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Margaret Wigiser began her career in 1944 with the Minneapolis Millerettes and during a game against the Rockford Peaches, she hit what is said to be the furthest home run ever hit at Beyer Stadium. The Peaches later ended up picking her up and she played with them until 1946. Her uniform number was 20. After her baseball career, she became a physical education teacher and worked as one from 1948 to 1969. She then worked as a director of New York City high school athletic programs until 1982. The New York Public School Athletic League created an award named in her honor to be given out annually to the top female athlete in the city.

Wigiser's mother was Catholic and her father was Jewish. She was featured in a card set of Jewish baseball players in 2006, but noted that she was personally of Catholic faith after she became aware of it.
