Biographical Information[edit]

Marcio Suzuki was on the Brazilian national team in the 1995 Intercontinental Cup. The 17-year-old was 0-for-3 with a walk and handled 7 putouts at 1B, where he backed up Jo Matumoto and Ronaldo Ono. He pitched once, allowing 3 runs in 2 innings. [1] At the 1996 World Junior Championship, he hit .500 and slugged 1.200 with 4 homers and 11 RBI in 20 AB. He tied for second in average (.063 behind Chin-Chih Huang). Of the players who topped .400, he led in homers (hitting as many as the entire US team that had Michael Cuddyer, Rick Ankiel, Josh Bard and others) and had the most RBI (3 ahead of Yosvani Peraza) and runs (8, one ahead of Peraza and Eliecer O'Connor). He was named the All-Star 1B, but with Brazil 9th he was not a likely MVP candidate; the award went to Huang. [2]
