Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Liam Doyle attended three different colleges before being selected with the 5th pick of the 2025 amateur draft by the St. Louis Cardinals. Heading into the draft, he was considered the top pitcher available alongside Kade Anderson and likely to go anywhere form first overall to fifth. In his junior year at the University of Tennessee, he went 10-4, 3.20 in 19 games and was the first of eight Tennessee players to be taken in the first three rounds - even though the school had failed to make it to the 2025 College World Series. His 164 strikeouts that year led all NCAA Division I pitchers. Before that, he had started his collegiate career at Coastal Carolina University going 3-1, 4.15 as a freshman in 2023, then transferred to the University of Mississippi where he went 3-5, 5.73 in a down year in 2024.

Doyle is originally from Boston, MA and of true Irish stock as attested by his first, middle and last names.
