Pitcher Larry Hardy's 76 games pitched with the San Diego Padres in 1974 were a major league rookie record at the time. He was second in the National League behind Mike Marshall, who set the all-time single season mark with 106 appearances that year.
He began his coaching career in 1978-1979 with Charleston Charlies. He then managed the Utica Blue Jays in 1980 and the Knoxville Blue Jays in 1981, 1982, and 1986. He was also a pitching coach in the Blue Jays chain and the San Francisco Giants organization. His stops included the Knoxville Blue Jays in 1980, Syracuse Chiefs in 1984, the Phoenix Firebirds in 1987 and 1990-1991 and as the Giants' roving pitching instructor in 1988-1989. Later he was the Texas Rangers bullpen coach from 1995 to 2001.
