Biographical Information[edit]

Kosei Ono was drafted by the Yakult Swallows in the 4th round of the 1996 NPB draft, and he crushed a homer against Koichi Misawa in his first career at-bat. He mainly stayed in the NPB Farm Leagues in his first four seasons, and he only got 11 at-bats for the big club. He hit .213/.247/.292 in 35 games in 2001, and he crushed 4 homers with a .225/.253/.425 batting line in 2002. Ono was 8-for-40 in 2003, and he had a 7-for-40 record in 2004. When Atsuya Furuta missed most of the 2005 season due to injuries, Ono got some chances at catcher and he hit .201/.213/.360 with 7 homers in 62 games. He only played 20 more games for the big club, and he announced his retirement. In his last at-bat, he crushed a homer against Shigeki Ushida, and he was the only player in NPB history who hit a homer in his first and last at-bat. He was the battery coach for the Swallows in 2014.

Overall, Ono hit .200/.236/.333 with 90 hits and 16 homers in 10 seasons in NPB.
