Biographical Information[edit]

Shigeki Ushida played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 9 years.

Ushida was drafted by the Yokohama BayStars in the 4th round of the 2003 NPB draft, and he mainly stayed in the NPB Farm Leagues in his first two seasons; he only pitched 4 games for the big club. Ushida was 3-3 with a 2.98 ERA in 2006, and he missed most of the 2007 season due to injuries. He had a 5.25 ERA in 23 appearances in 2008, and he only got 4 appearances in 2009. Ushida bounced back in 2010, and he notched 23 holds with a solid 1.21 ERA in 41 relief outings. He was 6th in holds in the Central League, between Tomoyuki Kubota and Daisuke Ochi. Ushida then recorded a 3.69 ERA in 45 games with 19 holds in 2011, but he allowed 5 runs in 7 innings in 2012. He didn't reach the big club in 2013, and he announced his retirement. He was the minor league pitching coach for the BayStars from 2020 to 2021.

Overall, Ushida was 9-7 with a 3.24 ERA, notched 46 holds in 159 games, struck out 277 and pitched 233 innings in 9 seasons in NPB.
