Biographical Information[edit]
Koji Maeda was drafted by the Hanshin Tigers in the 2nd round of the 1982 NPB draft, and he only got 4 appearances combined in his first four seasons. The Tigers traded him with Haruki Yoshitake to the Lions for Yasushi Tao in 1987, and he had a 8.22 ERA in 6 appearances that season. Maeda's ERA was 2.08 in 6 relief outings in 1988, and he also went 10-4 with a 2.36 ERA for the San Jose Giants. He allowed 10 runs in 6 1/3 innings in 1989, and he pitched 17 games with a 4.88 ERA in 1990. Maeda only got 4 more appearances before the Lions traded him to the Hiroshima Carp for Kenichi Otsuka, and he recorded a 3.15 ERA in 41 appearances in 1993. However, Maeda allowed 6 runs in 6 innings in 1994, and he announced his retirement in 1995.
Overall, Maeda went 5-2 with a 5.48 ERA, struck out 63 and pitched 106 2/3 innings in 10 seasons in NPB.
